DraftKings is on the verge of launching its sports betting operations in Ontario, having received approval for a license from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

This Boston-based sports betting company has recently been included in the AGCO's list of online gaming operators, which was released on Monday. For them to proceed, they must sign an operational agreement with iGaming Ontario after being registered with the AGCO.

iGaming Ontario was formed in 2021 to oversee the management of internet gambling in the province, specifically when run by private operators.

Just over a week ago,during an earnings call Jason Robins, the CEO, along with CFO Jason Park, hinted that a launch could occur as early as May in Ontario.

During a conference call, Robins remarked, \"We are hopeful to commence operations in Ontario soon, pending all necessary licensing and regulatory permissions. Ontario comprises approximately 40% of Canada's population, and if it were considered a U.S. state, it would rank as the fifth largest by population.\"

Park elaborated during the earnings call, stating, \"In the second quarter, we predict that the revenue from Golden Nugget Online Gaming alongside our Ontario launch could range from $20-25 million, impacting adjusted EBITDA negatively by $35-45 million if we successfully launch in May.\"

DraftKings has announced that it will discontinue its Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) services in Ontario due to the legal requirement that DFS players must be physically located within the province, which limits the potential player base.
