TheNational Hockey League On Wednesday, two new official sports betting partnerships were established, one of which includes a partner from Ontario.
PENN Entertainment has joined forces with the NHL, marking a significant collaboration with the prominent professional sports league. The company recently launched its ESPN BET sportsbook in the U.S. and now expandstheScore Bet Ontario Sportsbook its offerings to customers in Canada. As part of this partnership, PENN's sportsbook will gain the rights to use intellectual property, along with opportunities for media and marketing integration within NHL-related broadcasts.
This agreement takes effect immediately, covering both the regular season and the Stanley Cup playoffs. It also encompasses major events like the Winter Classic, Stadium Series, and All-Star Weekend, with this year’s All-Star events set to be held at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto from February 1 to 3.
Aubrey Levy, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Content at PENN Interactive, commented on the partnership, stating that becoming an official partner enhances their ability to connect with hockey fans, creating engaging integrations while utilizing NHL programming in unique ways. The NHL has previously established similar agreements with BetMGM, DraftKings, and FanDuel, all of which are authorized to provide online sports betting in Ontario. Two years ago, PENN acquired Score Media and Gaming, based in Toronto, for $2 billion. Last year, theScore Bet unveiled its proprietary technology, which enables
in-house operations.
