SBC has officially acquired the Canadian Gaming Summit; Furthermore, additional operators have received approval for sports betting in Ontario.

During a recent discussion with Paul Burns, the president and CEO of the Canadian Gaming Association, the upcoming Canadian Gaming Summit was a focal point of the conversation. This annual gathering serves both land-based and online gaming professionals.

Scheduled for June 7-9 at the Metro Toronto Convention Center, this year’s summit promises to present a different atmosphere due to various factors.Ontario sports betting market about to open up in a big way.

Although Burns held back earlier announcements, it has now been confirmed that international event and media powerhouse SBC will take over the CGS from its current proprietors, CGA and MediaEdge Communications.

The transfer of ownership will take effect following this year's conference.

Burns expressed the significance of the event: 'It’s been two years since we last met in person. There’s a palpable enthusiasm for reconnecting. The landscape has shifted dramatically with the legal and operational aspects of sports betting and online gaming in Ontario. We are finally moving past the strict health regulations that hindered the land-based casino sector for two years. We must remember, this sector is only just beginning to recover.'

'We aim to explore fresh opportunities and innovations for the future while reflecting on valuable lessons learned from recent challenges.'

'Attendees can look forward to excellent sessions and insightful speakers, providing a tremendous chance for networking and facetime, moving away from virtual meetings.'

Launch to be Celebrated

As part of this acquisition, SBC plans to collaborate with MediaEdge and the CGA to enhance this June's event with additional content and business prospects. Collectively, all three parties will hold a Special Gaming Industry Reception on April 4 to commemorate the launch of Ontario’s newly regulated sports betting environment.

Once the acquisition is finalized, CGA will serve as an official strategic partner for the summit.

Growing roster of online gaming operators in Ontario has now reached 14, as recognized by AGCO.

Add Royal Panda, FanDuel andBet365 The Ontario iGaming sector is set to launch on April 4.

Operators approved by AGCO are required to sign an Operator Agreement with iGaming Ontario to legally provide services in the province. Established in 2021, iGaming Ontario manages internet gaming offered by private operators.

Among those approved for sports betting in Ontario are PointsBet Ontario, theScore, and Rivalry.
